Europe has produced an average 60% of the world barley tonnage over crops years 2009-13 with 15% being produced in Asia and 13% in the Americas (FAOSTATS). The average yield of barley on a world scale is 2.76 t/ha over the same period and has risen over the past 50 years but the current world record barley yield is over five times higher at 13.8t/ha, which was set in 2015 by a New Zealand grower.
