RAGT is one of Europe’s leading seed breeding companies, with 15 research stations across Europe. It registers over 200 new varieties each year from 22 different crop species. As well as the cereals (winter wheat, durum wheat, triticale and barley) it is active in maize, sunflower, sorghum, forage and amenity grass, legumes, soya and oilseed rape breeding. It is committed to exploiting new sources of genes for critical traits including disease and pest resistance, yield, quality and environmental adaption and has numerous research collaborations in this area. Marker-assisted breeding support for all cereal species, including barley, is provided by a centralised laboratory based in Ickleton near Cambridge.
