Bioinformatics work carried out within the barley group at The James Hutton Institute can be broken down into two main areas; data analysis and software and database development. The expertise that exists ranges from Next Generation Sequence (NGS) analysis to the development of bespoke information visualization systems to aid in the comprehension and analysis of complex biological data.

The ability to integrate data from varying data sources and presenting it in such a way that meaningful biological problems can be addressed and identified, is crucial to the advancement of the work being carried within the group.
